Youth Programs

We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Miriam Margles as our new Youth Coordinator. She brings a wealth of experience to this position and we are honoured to have her as a spiritual leader, teacher and mentor for our youth congregation. Rabbi Miriam has been working in formal and informal Jewish education with all age groups for 15 years. Her passion is in integrating Jewish learning and community building with the arts.

Shabbat programming

For children ages 3 months to 3 years we offer babysitting with Aurie Navez from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in our social hall downstairs. Healthy kosher snacks will be provided.

We are pleased to offer specialized Shabbat services for children ages 3-7 (or 0-7 in the Shabbat B'Yachad program described below) and 8-11 on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the upstairs annex. Both programs offer lively participatory activities. The older youth meet weekly in a service led by teens involved in Rabbi Miriam's youth leadership training program. This youth service parallels the main service and gives participants the opportunity to learn prayer and engage in activities related to the weekly parsha.

Every second week, the younger children are led in the sunroom by teens also under Rabbi Miriam's guidance and instruction in youth leadership. On alternating weeks, the Shabbat B'Yachad (SBY) program offers families with children (ages 0-7) the opportunity to daven together under the leadership of a dedicated group of parent volunteers. A caregiver must accompany children to SBY services and older siblings are welcome join. Anyone interested in leading or helping to organize SBY can contact Mitch Davis, the Shabbat b'Yachad coordinator.

The different youth programs are designed to enhance the learning experience for each particular age grouping. We appreciate your efforts in ensuring your child attends the program designed for his or her age group. Caregivers are certainly welcome in any of the sessions. Our teen leaders are trained in keeping the youth congregants engaged in the programming and making the most of their Shabbat morning experience. Your cooperation in reducing disruptions by not frequently checking in on your children is much appreciated.

Kid's Kiddush is an essential component of all our youth programs. A nutritious snack is provided as part of each service.

Please check Narayever net for week-to-week information about upcoming Junior Congregation services.
